I have never, ever thought that I would be writing a text about 1959. And this is what the unwritten text would look like, about the year that changed everything.
According to history books, that is the year of Miles Davis with “Kind of Blue”, Dave Brubeck with “Time Out”, Ornette Coleman with “The Shape of Jazz to Come” and John
Coltrane with “Giant Steps”. Amongst many others…
No further words required, so here’s a couple of links to 1959. Exactly these four albums from 1959 need no further introductions.
And I somehow get back to Salinger and Oona O’Neill and the time he met her at the White Stork. Even though the event occurred years earlier.
And since we’re talking about four giant leaps – the words will be few – we let the music speak for itself. Exactly 60 years later we are listening to the music of 1959.
