A journey with the music of Anadol

In recent years, we have been following the projects of the Berlin-based Turkish electronic musician Gözen Atila, who is behind the artistic pseudonym Anadol. As the name suggests, the music and creativity of Anatolia are based on Eastern traditions and music, refracted through the prism of modern means of expression offered by electronic sound. In Anadol's previous works, interesting interpretations of the Turkish psychedelic and pop can be heard, in which electronic orientation dominates.

Her latest album, Felicita, was recently recorded in Turkey and released by Hamburg-based label Pingipung.

During the recording of the album, Anadol decided to include acoustic instruments in hер samples and loops and as a result began working with Turkish jazz musicians. It is these "acoustics" that distinguish the latest project from the others. Music seems to be trying to explore the listener's states and inner world. On the other hand, Anadol tells us stories, like Eastern tales, which have a plot and which symbolically, divide the album into separate chapters. For those who have traveled the vast fields of geographical Anatolia, this album could be like a photo collection that captures the landscapes of these ancient lands. And for listeners unfamiliar with the region, it could be an occasion for a geographical, historical and emotional journey there.

We can definitely describe the album as avant-garde and post-modernist, with interesting ideas, changing mood, minimalist and theatrical.

We end with the words of Gözen Atila herself and her attitude to creativity:

“Whether it is traditional or contemporary, we need to be authentic. I don't claim that I am authentic but this is what I want to achieve."

Today we listen the tune Felicita Lale. The album Felicita is available on digital platforms.
