A magician – about Panos Mouzourakis

Autumn is in full swing. Colourful, diverse and intensive.
As part of the variety, on October 20th in Thessaloniki we have a meeting with our favourite magician Panos Mouzourakis (Πάνος Μουζουράκης).
Writing a text about Mouzourakis is a very complicated task, because he himself has so many sides, so it makes it hard to say just a few words about him. Labeled by Greek media as multitalented, Muso, as he is dearly called in Greece, is the author of songs, an actor, dancer, director, illusionist and before all else - a public figure. And since he can’t peak in either one of his talents, he just combines them all into one show. An artist in the purest sense of the word.
He came into our life a couple of years ago by coincidence - on Crete, with the satirical song (and a nod to Edith Piaf) “Madame". We started off with that, but he made us dig deeper into his world.
Our search showed us more sides to him. But nothing could have prepared us for our first live meeting with the hurricane that is Mouzourakis - theatre, musical, show, even a circus!
Born in Switzerland, raised in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment, he has lived in the United Kingdom and the United States, but with his Thessaloniki roots, he returns to Greece many years ago in a time difficult for his country. And thats where the satire and the drama come in. All his lyrics have a strong social theme to them.
Just when you’re about to say “Oh, what a cynic!” it turns out, that he’s actively helping shelters for children and refugees in the program “The cradle of life”.
Aside from this, Mouzourakis, together with a group of artists, forms the avant-garde of the “εντεχνο” style nowadays. That’s what Greeks call original music. The other members of this group (all favourites of ours) will soon be introduced.
And that is how Panos Mouzourakis transports us in his multilayered and intense world in Thessaloniki on October 20th. Tickets and more information at https://www.fixfactoryofsound.gr/.
We listen to his original song “Target” (Στόχος), and to go with it the popular Mediterranean song “Misirlou” (Μισιρλού), meaning the Egyptian.
