Academia da Berlinda - 8° south of the Equator

Today we listen to the music by Academia da Berlinda - or what happens when seven childhood friends decide to share their free time playing with a bigger audience.

Our musical journey brings us to Brazil, close to the Equator and it lifts our mood. It warms up the soul and makes us dance. 8° south of the Equator, in the old town of Olinda (included in UNESCO’s cultural heritage), in 2014 seven friends found their band. Their sound was mostly influenced by the atmosphere by the old bohemian, colourful town of Olinda, as well as the musical traditions of the northeastern Brazilian state Pernambuco - a combination of Caribbean, Afro-American melodies and a worm worldly rhythm.

The idea of the boys is to just share the emotion and their joy from the dances and the good mood, the atmosphere of the eternal summer, somewhere there - on the shoes of the Atlantic. But it turns out more than 250 people came to their first gig, and that is how the history of the band began.

In all four issues of the album by Academia da Berlinda rhythm and dance dominate. You get transported to the old, healthy, even naive evenings and clubs, you hear the wind in the leaves of the palm trees and go for a walk through their favourite city of Olinda.

Today we dive into their second album, playfully called “Olindance”, self-produced and issued by the band in 2011.

The southern positive music by Academia da Berlinda and all four of their albums can be found on their channels on all digital platforms.
