African Playlist

The summer keeps coming in full force. We offer you tried and tested African songs, to go with the long summer evening. And the weather is warm, dusty and humid in the evening. The tides are massive, and animals, birds and a true joy for life surrounds us. Even outside Africa, this music makes us dance and it makes us think positive or contemplate the world.

The important thing is something else - the music has put down roots in other genres, that we enjoy from the bottom of our hearts. And traditional African instruments like the kora and the gimri can be heard all around the world.

Today we listen to them in their original environment and we thoroughly enjoy the energy.

Our beloved Africa is in our playlist today Musicaround's African playlist..

A couple of words about the performers, in chronological order:

We start things off with the famous Senegalese musician Cheikh Lo.

Followed by the Nigerian saxophonist - the engine of The Heliocentrics Orlando Julius. The next song is by another significant African composer - the father of ethnical jazz, the Ethiopian musician Mulatu Astatke.

We move forward with the Sudanese singer Rasha, followed by the mythical Malian guitarist, the African blues performer Ali Farka Touré.

We stay in Mali and we listen to the queen of African music - Oumou Sangaré. We continue with even more serious names - one of the founders of the afro beat movement, the Nigerian Fela Kuti, followed by the the Cameroonian saxophone and vibraphone player Manu Dibango. We go on with one of the pioneers of the afro beat sound, the virtuoso drummer Tony Allen (RIP). To wrap things up we have the Malian singer Fatoumata Diawara and the always positive Orchestra Baobab from Senegal.
