Atoms for Peace will bring you this!
We instantly connect Thom Yorke and Atoms for Peace to our previous post about Forro in the Dark. Only confirms that everything is connected. True to the eclectic that independent musicians make the “music of today”, here at MA we don’t limit the texts by style or genres. Today we discuss and listen to the life project of Thom Yorke and co. Yet more proof that live performances of such music are worth the attention. After Beat Music we go a little back in time, but still along the same lines, to show what things are heading towards.
The story begins with Thom Yorke’s solo project from 2009 – “The Eraser”. Yorke forms this super group, nameless at the start, in order to perform the pieces from “The Eraser”. Later on Atoms for Peace begins a life of its own. Pulsating, sudden, and full of u turns. A combination of masters in of their craft: Thom Yorke on guitars, piano, keys and programming, also author and of course – vocals; on bass – the one and only Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers – one of the best bass players of our time (and if you listen up until the end, you can hear him play the melodica); Mauro Refosco from Forro in the Dark on percussions and the vibraphone; the long year Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich on synths and guitars; and on the drums we have the man behind drums in REM and Beck – Joey Waronker.
In 2013, after a concert tour, they records the album AMOK – highly influenced by the music of Fela Kuti. A project, where, according to Yorke, the machines stop and the people start playing. Actually this is the only studio album of the band.
A project, competing in a lane of its own and turning everything around.
A trailblazing project, that once again proves that everything is connected. Music, that affects us equally in a state of euphoria and joy, and state of sadness and sorrow.
To start writing about Thom Yorke and Radiohead is unnecessary – there’s plenty of information on that. Today we focus solely on this experiment, that blows you away. With force, depth, dedication and fire.
The above listed musicians speak for themselves for rock music fans. Here we want to pay attention to something else here – in the modern world there are no differences. The music is either good – or not.
There will only be one link today – the live from Exit 2013, that says it all. What it means to not spare yourself, what it means to respect yourself and those around you, what it means to die with each song, what it means to be honest and truthful! From our personal impressions from Exit and Novi Sad from more than 10 years ago we can say this: the event and the location – the Petrovaradin fortress comes second to no festival venue. Thousands and thousands of people, gathered with only one common aim – music!
Today we listen to and watch the Atoms for Peace live from Petrovaradin from 2013 – a pill for every mood.
Different, unique and unsurpassed! Atoms for Pease have already written the “new” music and strike a strong resemblance to the late experiments of Miles Davis, in search of new roads.
