Autumn with Mathias Eick

Autumn is approaching with full force in our part of the world and it is bringing us a nostalgic mood. This is where the lyrical and melancholic music of Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Mathias Eick comes in handy.
Mathias was born in a musician family, both his brothers are famous musicians; he started with piano, went through the bass and the vibraphone, and ended up with the trumpet as his main instrument. In one of his interviews Eick says: “I have always felt as if the trumpet is a part of me, like an extension of my body, that is closest to my heart”.
In the music of his four issued albums for the label ECM, the Scandinavian sound is dominant, it brings loneliness and calmness. Incredibly musical and relaxing sound.
Apart from his solo album, Eick often records with world-renowned names such as Manu Katché, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Vincent Peirani, and Lars Danielsson.
Today we listen to songs from the albums Skala 2011 and Ravensburg 2018.
To wrap things up, if you do not wish to leave this magical environment - the full concert of Mathias Eick and his quintet at the JazzBaltica festival last year.
