Beat music & Now vs. Now – other faces of jazz in New York
About two New York projects, where well known musicians experiment with the unlikely. Mark Guiliana on drums and Jason Lindner on keys try out new things.
A couple of words to start with – in both projects, the musicians that later recorded Blackstar by David Bowie, try out new and incompatible at first sight things, but end up proving to us that music is a live projection of everything.
Beat music is Mark Guiliana’s idea, which also included Chris Morrissey on the bass, Jason Lindner оn keys and programing by Steve Wall. A lively project, with just one live album from a gig in Los Angeles – unpredictable, sudden, dynamic and thought provoking.
Here, a classic example:
Mark Guiliana's Beat Music: Spirit Animal
In the meantime, almost all from the same group of people are coming together on Now vs. Now, a project by Jason Lindner. Mark Guiliana or Jo Jo Mayer on drums and our favourite Greek bass player Panagiotis Andreou. Incredible collaboration and attention to all, including the world around us… Always surprising us and discovering new sounds. We are sent off on a journey with a Balkan-Mediterranean vibe.
