Forgotten treasures - Silk and Salt Melodies

The series forgotten treasures this week continues with an album issued by ECM Records in 2014 - “Silk and Salt Melodies” by the quartet of big French clarinet player Louis Sclavis.
As usual, searching for other music, we accidentally remembered the wonderful album by Sclavis and we are sharing it with great pleasure today.
Louis Sclavis is accompanied by Gilles Coronado on guitar, Benjamin Moussay on the piano and Iranian percussionist – zarb drum maestro Keyvan Chemirani (one of the members of the famous Chemirani Trio).
The name of the album speaks for itself - melodies about silk and salt, the stories instantly take us down silk roads, somewhere in Central Asia. As Sclavis himself describes the idea - here the basis is the nomadic beginning in human history, and so it goes all the way to immigration today. The rhythm of the piece somehow remind of travel and movement. In some places this is the sound of horse hoofs, such as in “Dance for horses”, sometimes it is an evening fire in front of a midnight sky, as it is in “L’Autre Rive”. Here is the place to say that for a typical middle Asian sounds, especially for the rhythm, Keyvan Chemirani’s percussions play the biggest role.
We wish everyone a great journey through old and new times with the music by the Louis Sclavis Quartet and “Silk and Salt Melodies”.
Today we listen to their concert from 2015 during the biggest professional jazz forum in the world Jazzahead!, as well as a live performance from the Jazz festival Jazz sous les pommiers.
