Greek Summer

During the warm, lazy holiday weeks with good weather, we have a couple of contemporary Greek songs. Music, not very popular outside of Greece, but enjoyed by all generations in Greece. Our impression is that the Greeks are very open musically; music and dance are an important part of everyone’s life – the old and the young enjoy both the traditional and the modern Greek performers. And we take advantage of the moment that it’s summer and everyone is down south at the seaside, to offer a couple of our favourite songs for good mood and relaxation. They transport us down to the south, but they also don’t fit the usual cliché of “Greek music”. Today we focus on our favorite group of contemporary Greek performers, who make us enjoy life and forget the worries of everyday life with each new project – no one said we have to always dig deep.

In August we will be relaxed, so we begin with Panos Mouzourakis, Kostis Maraveyas, Eleonora Zouganeli, Rena Morfi and co. Music to listen to on the terrace, on the deck, in the water, under the pines and eucalyptus – everywhere down south. Music full of moons, stars, sunsets, golden rain, dancing and love. Let the good times flow. Let it be summer! The sea and the air are warm. With one word – vacation. Music full of boats, sunsets, love, peace and shared happiness.

We start off with our favourite Panos Mouzourakis and “August” – full of faith in love and positivity. A video shot in our beloved and neighbouring Thessaloniki.
Followed by Kostis Maraveyas – the music man and one of the biggest contemporary composers of Greece. He graduated in music and math in Italy, he is a person who speaks five languages – a man of the world. Here we have one of his hits – “Lola” – a part of the movie going by the same name, about a relationship that blossoms during a long ferry trip from Piraeus to Kastelorizo.
And we get to Eleonora Zouganeli, the diva of the contemporary endechno scene. A chameleon of the Greek pop music. Eleonora and the song about the everyday journey of a “Suitcase”.
There is no way to not mention the charming Rena Morfi, the soloist of Imam Baildi – here with a favorite song “When I’m dancing for you” – a typical southern spicy song about female cunning and jealousy.
To wrap things up we offer you Nikos Portokaloglou, accompanied by Panos Mouzourakis, and Marcos Koumaris from Locomondo with the song “Maybe!” A Greek blues, full of positive emotion and hope or as they sing in the chorus: “Maybe one day we will go further, further than the night and the morning! Further than the end, we’ll get to the beginning!”.
