Happy New Year!

Here we are in the new year and everyone is listening to the Vienna Philharmonic with some of their genius conductors. We are starting off the year with head conductor to the Berlin Philharmonic - Kirill Petrenko and the winter fairytale and the “Symphonic dances” by Rachmaninoff. A piece has been brewing for a while - when Petrenko met Rachmaninoff.
We rarely talk about classical music, especially in first person. It’s somehow distant - that’s what everyone thinks. Formal is what others might call it. We have to listen to it every January 1st after all.
But actually, the choice is rather simple - to let it blow you away. Just like that, without any reservations.
Kirill Petrenko takes over the Berlin Philharmonic at 46, quite young for the position. But with his incredible approach towards music, he got chosen by a vote of all the musicians in the orchestra to take over the position as new head conductor for the 2019 - 2020 season.
Nothing can prepare the listener for the moment they hear the Berlin Philharmonic for the first time. Such intensity, such depth. The first time, we witnessed people from all around the globe, from different races, crying together - out of joy and pure emotion. We saw how everyone there went to witness something magnificent. What’s more interesting, only this orchestra gets to nominate and elect their own conductor, instead of having on assigned by a board or an administration. By doing that, the bond between the musicians and the conductor is stronger - they become a whole, one untamed river or a powerful ocean.
No music needs translating and that’s not what we are trying to do here. We just aim to show the beauty of winter, played in a masterful way. We await the new season of the Berlin Philharmonic and with listen to Rachmaninoff’s “Symphonic dances”, played by the orchestra of the Bavarian radio, as conducted by Kirill Petrenko. And music is a language and in that very language we wish you a Happy New Year, and we hope many interesting stories await us!
