Locomondo 20
In our opinion, every Greek summer (and not only summer) would be somewhat incomplete without the music of Locomondo.
There are some people like the band's leader Markos Koumaris and company, who always bring the positivity in themselves. There will be a lot of Locomondo today, because the band officially turned 20 years old, and on this occasion we have a Greek tour - and more - coming up this summer.
Locomondo is a band that has remained with us for the last fifteen years. On the roads and turns of Pelion, through the contrasting Peloponnesian lands, in the winter evenings, during the pandemic times. Here we open a big parenthesis - Locomondo were the band that Greece invited in the first days of the pandemic and the total lockdown there to lift the spirits of the stunned citizens. It is this concert that we will be listening to and watching today because it shows and proves in full the power of Markos Koumaris and the musicians. There is one undeniable fact, and that is that our small core wants to soundtrack it with the music of Locomondo every time it gets a slight whiff of the South. That spirit and positive energy they carry within them.
Whether while moored on Kastellorizo, among Turkish supermarket boats or on the polished Spetses, whether on a moonlit evening on a wild bay or in a safe harbour, their music is constantly with us.
We last had the opportunity to listen to them live at the height of the pandemic in Thessaloniki. Outdoors and wearing masks seating in 30+ degree temperatures. All the while, some spectator or listener had the urge to get up and dance, to empathise with this celebration that happens every time at the Locomondo gigs.
How we made it to the end without getting up, we do not even remember. And despite all the limitations, that pill of positive energy remains in our hearts to this day.
Today, for a good summer, we're revisiting Locomondo's finest tracks, collected in one pandemic gig that lifted spirits just in time for those times.
Otherwise - listen to Locomondo as much and whenever you want, autumn-winter, spring-summer. Where their music is, it's always summer and party.
One thickly underlined footnote - the Odyssey piece is a challenge for any lover of the Greek lands, both geographically and linguistically. And it always recharges the batteries right after Kulata-Promachonas.
