Miles in the Sky

These days we have been listening to Miles Davis’ album from 1968 Miles in the Sky. We have been listening and joking that none of us was born yet in the beginning of 1968.

The respect Miles Davis had towards compositions, and Ornette Coleman’s approach to music is what inspired him to record this album. Accompanied by Wayne Shorter on the saxophone, Ron Carter on the bass, Herbie Hancock on keys, Tony Williams on drums, and George Benson on guitar. Silence follows.

Superlatives are easily written about every great album, and according to serious jazz analyzers, this is one of the genius albums by Miles Davis. It serves as the middle point between his first purely acoustic phase, and the beginning of his second - fusion wave. We will not do that. We will share what this music does to us and why be believe that Miles Davis is one of the greatest musicians ever born.

The year is 1968. In the comfort of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones people are discovering new realities. But Miles Davis does not want to wait - he instantly dives into a new, different journey. A journey, that once again surpasses the state of music at that time with decades.

I have been asking myself the same question for years, especially when I listen to Sketches of Spain - is Miles a classical or a jazz composer. I am yet to find the answer.

It’s a fact that after this music everything is a repetition and creativity is brought to the bare minimum. Maybe the times were different. Maybe he’s just a genius. One thing is clear - in moments of emptiness this music will fill up all the gaps, and it will send you elsewhere. In a way that only Miles Davis can. We have never shied away from the fact that we bow down to his talent, and we always share his works with pleasure.

Today we listen to Miles in space with Miles in the Sky.

And to analyze what was said by the artist is completely unnecessary - the only thing we can do is say that it makes us feel alive and happy. We listen to Miles in the Sky.
