MMW feat. Scofield Juice
Today we talk about a very favourite album of ours – Juice by Medeski, Martin and Wood feat. Scofield. It will not be a lie to say that this is one of the most listened to albums by us in the past couple of years. However, we always find something new. It always brings us up on our feet and always reminds us – life goes on.
Medeski, Martin and Wood have been favourites of ours for many years and nothing can change that. Their approach to music – incredible sense of humour, combined with an indescribable lightness while playing, that just says – jedis, they don’t even surprise us anymore. Once you add John Scofield’s guitar to the mix, things go one step further. When you add Medeski’s keys, Wood’s bass and Martin’s drums, you get a fresh squeezed juice you could drink every morning.
There is an indescribable poetry and energy between them, that creates magic. There is also a lot of work. With incredible lightness and constant nods to us, while serving us with incredibly difficult pieces of music to play. But they make is sound good and somehow easy and digestible.
After so many meetings with big musicians we can say this – the deeper you are into things, the more humble you are. Everything else is vanity.
A little information about this specific project – here Medeski, Martin and Wood join forces with Scofield and improvise over afro-cuban pieces from the 60’s. And the peak of the iceberg is the eternal “Light My Fire” by The Doors. We listen Juicy Lucy.
To finish things off – the fact that for five years Juice has continuously made all fans of this music happy speaks for itself, right? Apart from oxygen, they breathe music. There is some unexplainable poetry in this project, that is so alive.
Medeski, Martin and Wood, as you can see here, recorded an album with a chamber orchestra – with the same kind of effortless lightness.
