Możdżer. Leszek Możdżer

For piano lovers the name Leszek Możdżer is probably well known. Somewhere between classical music and jazz, he carries himself with full force through the contemporary reality. Our story features live meetings throughout Europe - solo, a duet with Lars Danielsson, and his trio with Danielsson and the Israeli percussionist Zohar Fresco.
Leszek Możdżer studied the classical piano up to his teens, when Nirvana’s music came out. Then everything changed and he decided to change his direction. He takes a turn towards jazz, and he has stayed with it up to this day. But with a strong lean towards classical music. You can hear him play etudes by Chopin and sonatas by Prokofiev, Gershwin, and Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana; La Fiesta by Chick Corea. Even So What by Miles Davis.
Leszek Możdżer is not just a genius musician, but also a very down to earth person, with a warm sense of humour, which usually escalates every time when he has to announce his name - and it is not an easy one for the not used to the sounds of the Polish language. On the other hand Leszek Możdżer is an author of a yearly jazz and innovations festival called Enter Enea Music Festival. This year is marks its tenth edition, and the festival is usually a host to masters of the likes of Marcus Miller, Pat Metheny etc.
Leszek Możdżer brought back to life the music of the great Polish composer Krzysztof Komeda. His album "Komeda" is to this day one of the most moving piano albums of modern times.
The reason we are remembering the music of Leszek Możdżer today is his upcoming album together with Lars Danielsson on the bass, and Zohar Fresco on percussions. It will come out this autumn as a reaction to reality and it will go by the title “Just Ignore It”.
But now we go back to some other favourite albums by Leszek Możdżer, and to wrap things up we have a duet with Krzysztof Komeda together with another rising jazz piano star - the German Michael Wollny.

And we remember our last meeting some years ago in Istanbul, in a day when they played right after Tomasz Stańko and the Marcin Wasilewski trio - one of the last performances by the great Stańko before he left us for a better place.
