Music as a leading character

In this text we take a look at the films of Fatih Akin. In each of them there is another leading character - the music. It is with her today in our playlist that we travel through the sad and happy world of the director. Where pain and joy, reality and dreams come together.
There are few contemporary film poets who touch our souls with such ease and depth at the same time as Akin manages to do. And since the role of music in his films is extremely important, today we run through them in this different way - with pieces of their soundtracks. Not to mention the documentary "Crossing the Bridge", which is mostly music anyway.
We begin the journey innocently with Akin's early work and a road movie like Im July. On the roads, throughout Central and Eastern Europe, the main characters reach a Turkish campsite, where they listen to the Turkish singer Idil Uner.
We continue with the instrumental piece "Stealing the Camera" by Greek composer Jannos Eolou from the movie "Solino", followed by the soundtrack of the great "Gegen die Wand" (Head on). When we talk about “Gegen die Wand”, several things come to the forefront - the story, despair and hope described here by The Sisters of Mercy and Sezen Aksu.
Followed by music from the movie "The Edge of heaven" - a poetically told human story. Black Sea singer Şevval Sam’s song, followed by Selim Sesler's magical clarinet and the Roma mood of his hometown of Keshan. Then the story in the film is pumped to the music of the diva Neşe Karaböcek, and in fact the themes to the film are mainly written by the Austrian with a Balkan taste Shantel.
We are slowly approaching the magical movie "Soul kitchen" and the magical Zen universe that Akin is creating there. The soundtrack is figuratively divided into two parts - side A, which is dominated by Balkan rhythms, presented here in several songs and dreams, including the retro band The Olympians with the song "School" and then again Shantel and the song "Manolis". Side B of the soundtrack is saved for reggae and blues.
In the next film - "The Cut", the composer of most of the plays is the German bassist, old associate of Akin and the main narrator in the film "Crossing the Bridge" Alexander Hacke and the mood is frankly for cinematic music, and in addition we listen to Hindi Zahra.
We close the circle with Mike Patton and company - Faith no More from the movie "In the Fade".
We welcome you to the world of Fatih Akin on our YouTube playlist.
What better proof than this that everything is a sphere.
As always, we say now - you will find music on all digital platforms.
