Music for cats

As all cat lovers already know, cats are creatures from a different reality. Don’t go looking for the sincerity and honesty of dogs. It’s all upside down with cats.
This makes me think of Haruki Murakami, walking, cats, even wells and how we all find peace somewhere.
How in the world there are good imaginary islands, inhabited only by cats.
Then I got to thinking – how could cat music be described.
We have a jazzy cat of our own, it goes by the name of Geranium. It comes with a slow step, curls up to the closest flower pot containing Geranium (hence the name), listens to music, but does not come in contact with us. If there is food – she is happy. But she never begs.
She proudly survives for a third or fourth year now. And despite our constant efforts to bring her closer to our world, she has set her own boundaries. Because all cats are in charge.
So, Geranium likes rhythm, Brazilian music and reggae. She likes a rich sound, that somehow makes her swing, while she meditates, wrapped around the Geranium plant. And her children are peeking like Murakami cats on the beach and follow in her footsteps.
And I was thinking about how we drew her to us and then it hit me – reggae and Brazilian music are cat music. Rhythmic step, so smooth, almost unreal, but at the same time so independent.
That is why today we listen to music for cats. Rhythm, freedom, suddenness. I thought long and hard  about what would showcase this in the best way, so here it is: for starters we listen to a reggae, followed by our favourite Cyro Baptista with an upbeat Brazilian song with a strong African flavour.
