New Names – Sao Paolo Panic

Every year in Bremen at the end of April the annual jazz conference Jazzahead! takes place. These gatherings are attended by performers, promoters, journalists - in general all involved in the process of making music happen. It is at the annual Jazzahead! that many contemporary jazz and ethno performers get noticed, and then become popular, record albums, and tour.
We follow with interest the concerts and presentations of new interesting artists and bands every year, because they set the direction and show the state of the art at the moment.
Among this year's participants, the Brazilian band Sao Paolo Panic attracts our attention. The musicians of the sextet are from different countries and met at a previous edition of Jazzahead!. They later decided to record a joint album and reunited in 2019 in Brazil. As they jokingly explain, walking into the studio, at first moment they felt panic about their upcoming work together and hence the name of the project and their eponymous album was born. However, amidst the start of rehearsals, all the concrete and private ideas come together into a common sound. Outstanding professionals and successful performers, they create a warm mix of classic Brazilian rhythms, fusion and European notes. The sound is deep and saturated with percussion and drums, with a special place for our favorite vibraphone. Today we're listening to a few tracks of Sao Paolo Panic and preparing ourselves for the longer, warmer days.
