News from 2018 – Read More, Listen More

The year starts off with two very interesting projects that are totally different from one another.
The first one is the new, fourth album of GoGo Penguin “A Humdrum Star” – their second album under the Blue Note label. The piano trio from Manchester has a growing fan base in the last couple of years with their unconventional approach to perform acoustic music, but with a sound coming closer to trip hop and electronic music. Favourites of both critics and the public, with their modern way of playing they manage to gather even more and more young fans of non-commercial music. And they continue the trendy in recent times tradition of blurring the lines between genres.
The second interesting project that grabs our attention, is issued on one of our favourite American labels Motema music. That’s David Murray’s “Blues for Memo”, featuring Saul Williams. An album dedicated to the founder of the Istanbul community for jazz music and culture, the founder of Pozitif, club Babylon and the label Double Moon – Mehmet Ulug, who left us way too early in the end of 2013. An incredibly emotional, heavily socially engaged and on the other hand, incredibly modern album that intertwines with hip hop poetry and takes the listener on a journey around the world. An album with a very clear message and idea behind it and in the meantime incredibly easy to listen to.
