One different accordion

The accordion is traditionally an acoustic instrument, its sound is easily recognizable and even sometimes sounds retro (which is its beauty).
However, on his latest album Jokers (Act 2022), French virtuoso Vincent Peirani, along with Federico Casagrande on guitar and Ziv Ravitz on keyboards and percussion, shatter the status quo and all the formal and informal roles assigned to the accordion.
After our many encounters with Peirani's music live, it's safe to say that the Frenchman doesn't recognize boundaries and experiments boldly.
Having gone through all forms, in his latest project Peirani really surprises with avant-garde and bold ideas.
The barefoot rebel Peirani (he always plays barefoot during his concerts and live shows), who refuses to accept restrictions, gives us a contemporary voice on the accordion. His sound is lyrical and aggressive, rhythmic and plaintive - acknowledging no boundaries. This latest project proves it in an absolute way.
Over the years, we have met and listened to Vincent Peirani in his various performances, from solos to collaborations, sometimes unimaginable. With his latest album, he manages to surprise even his regular followers. After last year's programme with his old collaborator, clarinetist Emile Parisien, and their emotional programme at the London Jazz Festival, we least expected him to bring out a rebellious and completely different concept. Music for reflection and music as challenge. The latest album is out and we're keeping an eye on every next phrase and catchphrase. Taking the accordion as an instrument out of the traditional rhythms of his style and featuring it in a completely new musical form.
Over the years, we have repeatedly turned our attention to the mixing of genres and the creation these days of completely different formats. The Jokers album undoubtedly falls into the "music of now" category. Interesting, full of ideas and groundbreaking. We look forward to further challenges like this. And today we're listening to Vincent Peirani and the Jokers album, which is available across digital platforms.
