Otto Ferreira

Today we listen to and discuss Otto Ferreira, or just Otto, as he is known in Brazil.
People from different parts of the world have a different feel for music, but we can all agree that in Brazil it has a cult status. On the other hand, contemporary Brazilian music, especially when it comes to independent musicians, is quite unknown in our neck of the woods. That is why we decided to take a chance and introduce Otto – one of our favourite Brazilian musicians, whose music carries the feeling of summer, the ocean and endless beaches, while also being filled with depth and poetry. 
Otto started out as a percussionist and as the soloist in the band Mundo Livre S/A, with whom he recorded two albums in 1994 and 1996, after which he decided to go solo. 
He has recorded six solo albums, which we discovered many years ago with a single of his in Brasil – an album from the series of projects by Wax Poetic. After that, in 2009 Otto came out with “Certa Manhã Acordei de Sonhos Intranquilos“ (Nublu records). The tittle translates to “One morning I woke up from disturbing dreams” – a direct reference to “The Metamorphosis” by Kafka. That’s where the song Crua comes from. After discovering that album we began to be interested in and follow Otto’s music – incredibly honest and with a powerful voice. A blend of nature and the world that surrounds us, but also an escape. Try listening to Otto during winter time – he will instantly take you to the beach by the ocean. 
Here we take a trip through the years with a variety of his projects and performances, fully realizing it is July and we offer you some wonderful and different summer music. Not tired out from constant playing and listening, it surprises the senses. Not understanding Portuguese will not stop you from hearing the music and feeling it go through you. Let the music flow – or as Otto himself says: “Music!”

To wrap things up we have “Meu Dengo” and “Carinhosa” from the latest “Ottomatopeia” from 2017.
