The music of Guillaume Perret found us years ago. The French saxophone player took part in a gig by Ilhan Ersahin and co. That is when our attention was drawn to the specific pedal playing by Perret. A person with a massive imagination and ideas, Guillaume Perret does not stop experimenting in different styles and combinations. Today we showcase his faces in a couple of projects - alone and in company. A very obvious example of going through different genres and subjects.
At the same time Perret is a musician and composer with a very clear vision, that just wants to play. A breath of fresh air in these foggy days.
Perret got a classical training and is better known as a studio musician and an author for theatre and film scores. His focus is the use of pedals and the twisting of sound, long before this came in “fashion”. His album Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic got hugely popular and drew the attention of John Zorn himself, who issued it on his Tzadik label back in 2012.
Today the art by the sound explorer Guillaume Perret brings us back to live shows and to the pleasure of experiencing live music. How it takes over your senses and sends us to another dimension.
