Shake Stew HEAT

Spring continues to present us with new interesting projects. The new album HEAT (Traumton Records 2022) by the Austrian band Shake Stew was released on March 25.
The Shake Stew septet, formed in 2016 and led by bassist Lukas Kranzelbinder, has become a European phenomenon in the last three years. The band consists of two more bassists, two drummers and a brass section consisting of two saxophonists and a trumpet player.
Each project of the group is full of positive mood, dancing and captivating. Completely in line with its name, the album HEAT is no exception - the songs are beautiful, easy to remember, but also multi-layered. With the typical for the group dense and deep parts, combination and game between percussion and brass section. Of course, under the leadership of Lukas Kranzelbinder, who, in addition to bass, also plays African guembri and percussion.
The album was recorded in Italy during the pandemic and reflects the joy of playing live in these difficult times and the musicians' enjoyment of co-creation. Music seems to be born right now, with a lot of improvisation and the thrill of live sound.
An African note runs through the entire album, which can be felt both in the Moroccan guembri - so characteristic of the sound of Shake Stew, and in the added percussion.
The music seems to pulsate, as it happens at the band's live concerts, one of which we had the opportunity to witness 2 years ago in Sarajevo. We look forward to new meetings with them to immerse ourselves again in this whirlwind party that happens at each of their gigs.
Today from the album HEAT we listen to the play Wake Up And Be Gone.
The entire album is available on digital platforms and can be heard here.
