She moves on – Youn Soun Nah together with…

Jamie Saft, Mark Ribot, Brad Jones and Dan Reiser.
The new album of Youn Sun Nah, issued on ACT on May 19th, 2017.
Or – the season of Jamie Saft, where he competes with himself.
“She moves on” by Youn Sun Nah pops up suddenly (but expectedly) as a title. At the same time, another long-awaited album comes out – Jamie Saft, accompanied by Steve Swallow and Bobby Previte, which all come together in “The New Standard Trio feat Iggy Pop”.
Since Youn Sun Nah is signed to the German independent label ACT, the collaboration with American musicians comes as a bit of a surprise. As it turns out, a connection happens and “She moves on” comes out a week before The New Standard Trio 2 (with a guest appearance by Iggy Pop).

The musicians:
Jamie Saft – one of the most original and creative artists of the contemporary New York scene, participant in numerous projects. His strongest appearance before all his individual work is his participation in John Zorn’s projects, where he brings loads of individuality. In the last couple of years, he has been concentrating on some solo works, where the focus lays on solo acoustic piano performances of Stravinsky plays to reggae and dub, channeled in his albums with the New Zion trio. Also deffinitely worth mentionion is his now cult breakthrough with Steve Swallow and Bobby Previte – The New Standard trio.
A performer with a lot of energy and a wide musical range, a composer and producer with his own recording studio.

Marc Ribot- Jamie Saft’s ‘accomplice’ from the avant-garde/ dwontown New York music scene – on guitars. An Icon in contemporary music. He has played with Tom Waits, Elvis Costello and Robert Plant amongst many others (including russin avant-garde group Auktyon). And of course, with John Zorn.

Brad Jones – on acoustic and electric bass. An accomplice to Jamie Saft and in the New Zion trio project.

Dan Rieser – from the same American circles, a person with a very precise touch and a large biography behind him, including Norah Jones.

Youn Sun Nah herself – born in Korea, started out as an opera singer, graduated music studies in France. An extremely distinctive musician and musical polyglot. A performer with a distinctive voice and a very wide emotional and vocal range. Her repertoire ranges anywhere between Scriabin to Metallica.
A bit of backstory – Youn Sun Nah has been recording with leading European jazz musicians – mainly French and Scandinavian, such as Lars Danielsson, Vincent Peirani and Ulf Wakenius. Up until the moment she decides to make an American project. That’s where all the powerhouses here got to collaborate.

The result – incredibly delicate, detail oriented, well performed and experienced album. An album you listen to in one breath – difficult and light at the same time, with attention to the smallest details and at the same time with so much soul and hustle.

The album – the result of the new worldwide trend: musicians from different places and cultures, coming together in the name of something new and different. Something of real quality, showing a new side to things. Something lively. Something that reflects today’s world.
