Solar Plexus – an unexpected journey
Solar Plexus – an unexpected journey
Ilhan Ersahin’s Istanbul Sessions’s new album (Nublu records, 2018) literally sends us right into space!
For the New York scene, the constant search for a newer sound is not a surprising move. The blurring of lines between different genres is in full force here – acoustic instruments combined with electronic sounds. Ilhan Ersahin’s saxophone, Turgut Alp Bekoglu’s drums, Alp Ersonmez’s bass and Izzet Kizil’s percussions, with the accompaniment of Ibrahim Maalouf, Nils Petter Molvaer and Erik Truffaz on trumpet. We also have vocals and percussions by Arto Tuncboyaciyan, percussions by Maoro Refosko, drums by Kenny Wollesen and Brandon Lewis and to top it all off – Dave Harrington on guitars, programing and producing the album. These are the people sending us of on a journey out of this world.
The album is to be listened to as a whole, divided in ten parts – with a beginning, gradation and finale.
A leap, that hasn’t been done in a while.
Knowing the musicians, the album will have some serious live improvisations…that’s where it gets interesting.
