Summer is coming with Diaspora Africanus

Summer is slowly beginning to entice us. Many outdoor music events and new, invigorating, full of rhythm music await us. Today we open the door and release the first new summer project - the live concert recording of the band of Norwegian-based Nicaraguan drummer Charles Mena with their latest album "Diaspora Africanus”.

A few introductory words before we get to the music. The Diaspora Africanus project involves musicians from different nationalities and ethnicities, united not only by African but also by global culture. Among the participants, besides Mena himself, there are musicians from Norway, Gambia, Cuba, Mali, Australia and others. Each live performance of the group is a feast for the senses and leaves a unique feeling of empathy, fun and celebration.

The album is released by OKWorld Records, a separate branch of Bugge Wesseltoft’s Jazzland Recordings, who himself also stars in Diaspora Africanus.

As the musicians themselves define the concept and ideas in the album, they bring together the music and culture of the West and the East, the North and the South. The sound is a kaleidoscope of genres and rhythms - between jazz and reggae, hip-hop and rock, with dominant percussion in all forms and from all over the world.

The documentary live sound further enhances the feeling that we are part of the celebration that Diaspora Africanus is organizing.

This music will make you smile and dance. What better way to start the summer…

Today from this project, we listen to and watch the play Farafina with Bugge Wesseltoft on the keyboards.

You will find the whole album on digital platforms.
