The cosmopolitan project of Bugge Wesseltoft Bugge & Friends

Bugge & Friends (Jazzland Recordings 2015)

Yet another surprising meeting point for musicians coming from all over the globe – the album of Bugge Wesseltoft Bugge & Friends.

Bugge Wesseltoft has always been an innovator. One of a few European musicians with a more global overview on things. In this particular project, him and his band, consisting of Ilhan Ersahin on the saxophone, Erik Truffaz on the trumpet, Eric Holm on percussions and the New York DJ Joe “King” Claussell.
A global sound, dominated mainly by Bugge Wesseltoft’s point of view. This album brings something European to the global trend of intercontinental projects. Here, Joe Claussel’s participation on percussions and as a DJ, manages to bring something new to the typically Scandinavian sound. New, experimental music, that reflects on today’s world. Bugge and Friends LIVE at Oslo Jazzfestival
A very vivid description of our meeting with this project follows. In general, it’s quite hard to get these musicians all together, when news of an Istanbul gig reaches us, we instantly start planning. Babylon club, March 2016. The adventure begins – Bugge and Friends live – vivid, wonderful, captivating.
Bugge Wesseltoft experiments with contemporary music and isn’t afraid to mix live music with electronics. It works out just fine.
An eclectic environment, mixed with sudden nirvana.
On the morning after the concert we head to hunt for treasures at Lale Plak (Istanbul’s oldest music shop). There, the owner, Hakan Atala greets us and says: “Wait, Bugge Wesseltoft is picking out records in the back, he’ll be right out, I’d like to introduce you.” We all know why we are at this record shop at this hour of the day. We’re comparing records that we’ve bought throughout the years and in the meantime, Joe Claussell is taking pictures of the records we’ve picked out this time around.
