The music of Kutiman
At the end of summer and the beginning of autumn this week, we return after a long stay on the Greek lands. It was full of vicissitudes and adventures, but more about them another time.
Summers in Greece bring the typical timelessness, long - even hot evenings and, of course, good music. The local radio stations for world and jazz music keep a pretty good standard and along with the old, established and favourite songs, they also play interesting new offerings. It was one of their selections that established itself as our personal musical favorite of the summer and made us take a deeper look at the artist. The piece is "My Everything" by Israeli multi-instrumentalist Kutiman.
Ophir Kutiel, the man behind the pseudonym Kutiman, was born in Jerusalem and was involved in music from an early age - at the age of six he started with piano, followed by drums and guitar. He went on to study jazz music and was heavily influenced by Afrobeat and the music of Fela Kuti.
His online video project "Thru You" (2009) brought him huge popularity, for which he received a bunch of awards and nominations and attracted critical attention from leading music publications.
Kutiman's commitment to the problems of the modern world is also evident in one of his latest projects, Antarctica, which was produced with Greenpeace to draw attention to global climate issues.
An intriguing interpreter and bold experimenter, Kutiman creates the characteristic complex music of the new times, which we could not put into a frame.
Today we listen to his absolute hit from this summer, the piece „My Everything”.
