The musical traveler Cochemea

Our first July proposal this week is the colorful music of the American jazz musician Cochemea Gastelum. The California-born Indian saxophonist has for years combined Latin American folklore with jazz and traveled the world through music.

In his career, the saxophonist has worked with musicians such as Quincy Jones, Beck, David Byrne and others.

And today we are listening to the album from 2019 All My Relations (Daptone records). A project in which the musician returns to his roots and an album full of many percussions, which create an unusual rhythmic background for Cochemea’s saxophone. Some of the songs even have Indian names. Music that brings solace and somehow enchants like shamanic singing.

On the one hand, the album can be seen as a vertical journey that brings together the past, present and future in a story without beginning and end. On the other hand, the heat in the sound somehow transports us to the south, where the wind rustles in the palm leaves and the sound of the waves blows away.

Finally, we look at the musician's upcoming new album "Vol. II Baca Sewa” with the single Mimbreños released this month.
Today we travel through time and space with the music traveler Cochemea, whose music you will find on digital platforms.
