The new format of The Bad Plus

We can safely say that the band The Bad Plus are icons of modern jazz. Each of their live concerts gathers fans within minutes. Our experience on their concert in Istanbul years ago left a unique taste and transported us to the magical world they create. At that time, they were a trio - still in their old, classic format. The years passed and the band decided to renew itself as a quartet, adding guitars and saxophone to the previous classical jazz trio. So The Bad Plus nowadays is the band's founder and leader, bassist Reid Anderson, drummer David King, guitarist Ben Monder and saxophone singer Chris Speed.

The new format was promoted of the digital edition of the New York Jazz Fest this year, and even then, we felt the path that The Bad Plus is paving with the inclusion of Ben Monder on guitar.

The recorded material will be released as an album in early autumn, and today we are listening to the first play of it Motivations II.

Beauty, depth and devotion to the music flow from every piece. Focusing on the details and refining every note, every light and shadow, have always been a hallmark of the band. It is with great pleasure today that we indulge in the new ideas that the Reed Anderson's quartet offers us and immerse ourselves in the summer nights with this magical music.

Finally, we quote the words of two of the group's founders, David King and Reid Anderson, for the upcoming project, and we completely agree with them.

“Evolution is necessary for life and creativity. We have evolved, but we’re still The Bad Plus. ”

And the coming summer continues to offer us great new surprises.
