The Space of Rymden

Rymden's second album, released in late 2020, made us take a closer look at them.

The super band Rymden includes three great Scandinavian jazz musicians - Bugge Wesseltoft on keys, Dan Berglund on bass and Magnus Öström on drums. The last two - part of the great trio of Esbjörn Svensson e.s.t. Bugge Wesseltoft 's name, on the other hand, have been associated for decades with both jazz innovation and his label Jazzland Recordings, which gives both young and established musicians a way to experiment.

After a series of live performances, in 2019 the three musicians recorded and released their debut album "Reflections and Odysseys" (Jazzland Recordings 2019), which was received extremely well by both critics and audiences. The very concept of the project, as the name Rymden (space) suggests, is strongly focused on live playing and improvisations. Travelling through time and space.

This trend continues and grows in their second album "Space Sailors" (Jazzland Recordings 2020). Space Sailors - a name, chosen not without a dose of humor and self-criticism. Here the mixing of themes and genres continues.

Motifs from film music mixed with homages to Chopin, even here and there hints of Miles Davis creep in. At the same time, the music is melodic and easy to listen to, but also makes us think.

Today we listen to several songs from Rymden's two albums and enjoy the Scandinavian sound that three great musicians create. And you can listen to music on all digital platforms.

We start with two songs from the album "Reflections and Odysseys":

The Odyssey
The Lugubrious Youth Of Lucky Luke

Followed by two songs from „Space Sailors“:

The Space Sailor
Тerminal one

To wrap things up - their finale at JazzBaltica.
