Winter Jazzfest 2022

This year's just-concluded edition of the New York Winter Jazzfest once again took place virtually. This allowed the listeners to enjoy a few evenings of great music from their sofas. Together with the fans of the new and old formats, we are also listening to the last updates from the festival. To our delight, the performances are now available on the festival's YouTube channel and today we listen to and watch selected gigs from the past days.
Thanks to this online format, we can feel all the diversity and variety of the modern music scene. Today we travel with debutants and established classics, the names of Marc Ribot and The Bad Plus are next to the recently discovered Nikara and Amir Elsaffar, and from London joins the British saxophonist Chelsea Carmichael.
A few more details about the format. In its previous "live" editions, the Winter Jazzfest organized the so-called "Marathons" - in one night a hundred performers played in various Manhattan clubs and the audience traveled from place to place. Now, in the online edition, this is happening in the same way, even without the restrictions of countries and continents. An additional plus, in addition to the incredible variety of music, is the quality sound from the studio concerts of the artists.
Today we listen to parts of different evenings of jazz marathons - 20-30 minute sets of well-known names and debutants.
The beginning is set by The Bad Plus, now in a quartet version.
After them, we listen to a young star on the vibraphone Nikara.
From the same evening follows the gig of the eternal activist Marc Ribot on solo guitar.
Then we move to London with the British Chelsea Carmichael.
We go back to the States and from Florida, we listen to Amir Elsaffar on trumpet and electronics - one of the most interesting names lately.
For the finale we are in London again and listening to Ishmael Ensemble.
Many more new and familiar music can be found on the Winter Jazzfest channel.
