You don’t know the life

Today we are listening to Jamie Saft’s latest project with him on keys, Steve Swallow on bass and Bobby Previte on drums. “You Don’t Know the Life” came out a week ago on RareNoiseRecords. Why Saft again? That’s what I keep asking myself…And also – do we know life at all?
This project breaks everything down to its core and gets the music together again. Contemporary and with a sense of humour. But also with depth. Makes our life flash before our eyes, with all its twists and turns, the good and the bad. With a smile, with sadness – with depth. A personal image for every listener. All our ups and downs. Honest and intense.
I’ve already written about the three Buddhists (or jedi’s if that’s what you’re into). This text is not about them. They go beyond rules and mastery. They are one three-dimensional brain. A whole. We will deal with the subject and the way. How can you really get to the core, to reorganize the puzzle and to include the message in a unique new form. Contemporary, but completely grounded to tradition. It makes the listener ask themselves – where have I gone?
And to not want to stop listening. To not be able to.
The facts – the album includes five interpretations of old pieces: starting off with Bill Evans and getting to Billy Gibbons’ You Don’t Know the Life and five other pieces.
So organically intertwined, so experienced. Jamie Saft has left the acoustic piano behind and chosen the Hammond organ. The other two wise men are sticking to their signature style.
And in the meantime there’s a slightly ironic element. Bobby Previte’s playing and arrangements completely transform the whole sound. But in combination with Swallow and Saft the trio sends us into a new reality. And it is with great pleasure that we welcome you into You don’t know the life by Saft, Swallow and Previte – for sure one of the albums of 2019!
