Musicaround on the run
This autumn, the Musicaround team has been quite busy. While we’re trying to put together a schedule, I think it’s best to explain why we’ve been so occupied.
On October 20th, we dove into the happy-sad world of Panos Mouzourakis in Thessaloniki. Two days after we arrived home, we were blown away by Marc Ribot with Fish in Oil, at studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio – a first meeting for the band before their Belgrade concert, which also serves as the opening of this year’s edition of the Belgrade Jazz Fest. An extraordinary concert by world class musicians, at the tenth edition of the Alarma punk jazz fest. The world, and Bulgaria, were playing on the same frequency. Here is the place for one big and well deserved “Bravo!” to Cvetan Cvetanov and the Alarma punk jazz team. One of the biggest compliments in this day and age is when people leave their phones to the side and emerge themselves into what’s happening in front of them. That’s what happened on Wednesday at studio 1 of the Bulgarian National Radio. We all paid attention! And for the Musicaround team this was just a warm up for our third run in with John Zorn’s music, who will be waiting for us on November 2nd in Sarajevo. This year with a premiere of the new cycle of plays Book Beriah – also recorded and to be performed in Sarajevo by amazing musicians. Cyro Baptista, Shanir Blumenkranz, Bill Frisel, Kenny Wollesen, Chess Smith, Julian Lage, Brian Marsella, Sofia Rei are just some of the names…
And because the Musicaround team is so spoiled for choice, some of us will head to Eindhoven for the annual edition of the So what’s next festival, we will meet up with Avishai Cohen with the project 1970 and Gogo Penguin.
Music is all around!
December programme to follow shortly…
